How do you get a 4,500 lb diesel truck in the 9’s? NOS and Launcher!
"Thanks to the NOS nitrous setup we're running, we were able to break into the 9-second club with our latest drag truck project. We're running the Pro-Street Diesel class, which requires a 4500lb minimum weight. We made our first full 1/4-mile track passes in Phoenix, Arizona, at the season opening NHRDA event. The truck's very first pass was a 9.91@139.4mph and backed it up with a second run at 9.99@135mph. This made it the first ever 7.3L to run in the 9s.
We still have plenty of untapped potential in this little truck once we get the chassis and transmission tuning dialed in, we should be very competitive in our class against the Cummins and Duramax crowd.
We're running just a single turbocharger with a waste gate mounted on the end of each exhaust manifold. We ran two 20-lb NOS bottles to feed the 7-lb-per-pass system. The truck uses four NOS solenoids and the Launcher controller. As you can see in the videos, we can make it run pretty much smoke free down the track."
